Just when I curb my want/need for a vintage FJ of any sort, this 1967 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-45 comes along! Seriously, I can’t see a restomod Land Cruiser and not get a little too excited.
This FJ-45 has received plenty of love including a shortened box, a canvas topper and custom tanks in the bed. The real deal sealer is in the running gear however. Underneath that beautiful hood hides a 4bt Cummins turning a NV4500 manual transmission! That’s not all, connecting all the dots is a twin stick Dana transfer case and a set of Dana axles.
Aside from all the great mechanicals and custom work FJ-45’s are just great looking trucks that deserve this kind of love.
There are some down sides to owning a truck like this though. For starters you will never be able to drive it… Without being surrounded by people gawking at it and asking questions. Next the $68,000 pricetag isn’t too pretty when you consider most new trucks are still less than that. On the flip side a build like this from the FJ company would cost between $120,000 and $200,000! Finally and definitely the most saddening realization for me. It would be a shame to take such a beautiful and well built Toyota on any sort of trail or adventure. It pains me to say I think this 1967 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-45 may have a new life destined for paved roads and car shows.
