The Subaru Brat was was the only pickup truck (?) that I can remember that came with rear seats from the factory. They were like jet pilot seats with grips and everything. Unfortunately this 1986 Subaru Brat doesn’t have them. The seller has graciously thrown some cloth buckets in the deal if his reserve is met, but hey, that’s not the same thing buddy. The Brat had a sad case of mistaken identity, never quite sure what it was. Am I a truck? I have a bed. Maybe I’m a car? I can have four seats. Perhaps a sporty, mini El Camino complete with t-tops. The Brat was never great at anything. A Swiss army knife of sorts though, it could kinda-sorta do all kinds of things.
This Subaru Brat has lived a pretty tough life, once upon a time it even had a salvage title that somehow got washed clean in New Jersey. The seller boasts over and over that it’s rust free, which it is. Primarily rust free because it looks like the underside has been bathed in oil and transmission fluid for the past 220,000 miles. It might be kinda-sorta rust free, but it’s certainly not dent free. Or clean. It has the original wheels and even the radio, which is neat. But if you’re looking for a solid driver with some long term collectibility I don’t think this is your Brat. Currently at $1,500 with reserve not met in Oak Ridge, New Jersey.
